The Museum Centre, a public, non-profit making institution, opened in July 1994 as the resource centre in Poland for museums. The Centre is :
Collecting and disseminating information on
museums in Poland and other countries, covering their type, their collections,
their activities, thier staffing,
organisations, from universities to government departments,
which are working with museums,
the expertise available in particular fields - from museum management
to conservation,
developments in Poland and other countries.
Offering professional advice to museums and to organisations working with
museums,
Organising meetings, conferences, seminars and courses.
Acting as the information point on Polish museums for other countries.
The Centre is now building up a reference library of books and international journals on all aspects of museums and museology. It is also building up a computer database to provide up-to-date information which is easily accessible.
The Centre is keen to develop an international outlook and we therefore look forward
to establishing links with museums and museum organizations in other countries
to encourage active co-operation - from exchange of information to the exchange of staff.
